Brain Cancer Cures & the Small Steps Taken Towards Them

By Rob Sutter

Brain cancer is one of the conditions which, I have learned, is a difficult one to treat. There is simply too much in the way of complexity for simple research methods to take on and it's best to take it one step at a time. This may be difficult, though, since there are a number of components to be seen with these growths, from enzymes to protein. However, this slow process may actually benefit research since it ensures that little is gone unnoticed.

I read an article on the Medical Xpress website that told about a drug by the name of Avastin, which works to help tumors. Essentially, they cause the tumors to decrease in size but the problem therein is that they often grow back to their previous size rather quickly. While this might seem like a failure in theory, I believe it can only help researchers understand these growths better. With a drug called dasatinib, it seems like the spread of tumors can stop.

I can't help but feel as though research is the sort of process which has to be done one step at a time. This is mostly due to the fact that these sorts of tumors are complex by nature, containing a series of protein chains and enzymes that make research all the more difficult. As you can tell, the workers in the medical field go through quite a bit of hardship when conducting work. That's not to say that they are unable to accept help from others, though.

It's fortunate that there are companies like Voices Against Brain Cancer because these organizations have been successful in bringing people together. These individuals have a common cause in mind and it's because of that reason that they can work as a unit. The kinds of events that are centered on brain cancer can range from races to other sporting contests which may call for more physical effort. People have enjoyed themselves and this type of cancer has been helped in terms of awareness.

Brain cancer awareness is one of those causes which, in my opinion, has no limit as to how much it can grow. After all, it's clear that so many people are already committed to this cause and I have to believe that more people can jump onboard as well so that they can offer assistance. People generally work hard when it comes to cases that offer benefits for everyone and I believe raising awareness for this cause is the same. I think it's just a matter of attracting more supporters.

Brain Cancer Research Without Need For Surgery

By Rob Sutter

When you think about brain cancer research, I am sure that most people commonly associate with invasive surgery. It's almost necessary for people to go under the knife if they desire direct treatment of these tumors. Without it, it's difficult to treat specific growths in the brain and it's like there are few alternatives to take. Having said that, however, it seems like one hospital is offering up a new method which will not require usage of a sharp instrument in order to see it through.

According to an article posted on the Destin Log website, the Sacred Heart Hospital would be utilizing a new tool in order to treat tumors within the brain. Going by the name of the Gamma Knife Perfexion, it makes use of beams in order to work with this condition. It basically works the same way as surgery - targeting specific growths - without ever having to utilize the knife. When you consider this idea alone, people would be open to making use of it.

For those who think that a Gamma Knife is an entirely new concept, you'd be mistaken. In fact, there are over 275 hospitals and institutions around the world which make use of this. The newsworthy nature about this story, though, comes from the fact that this hospital is the first along the Gulf Coast to truly utilize it. Compared to your standard surgical procedure of going under the knife, the Gamma Knife is not quite as risky in comparison, as you could very well imagine.

The article talked about the number of causes that this procedure can help, too, which only helps brain cancer research to expand. Both malignant and benign tumors are to be helped by this and there's also a condition by the name of arteriovenous malformation to take into account. For those who don't know, AVM is found in between arteries and veins and it can cause difficulty in terms of speech as well as bouts of numbing and tingling in the body. These details should be looked at more often by companies along the lines of Voices Against Brain Cancer.

The Gamma Knife Perfexion is a procedure that has started back in Feburary and will, in recent times, start to go about its first case. I can only hope that said case goes over well and that we will start to see actual results. I want to believe that this system can live up to its advanced technology and refined hardware in order to help people. Cures can be found, I believe, and I think it's just a matter of taking the necessary steps to get to that point.
