Could Disease Research Become Less Toxic?

By Rob Sutter

Disease research has a number of risks people can cite and many of them come about through surgery. In terms of brain cancer, this is probably the most common method of attempted treatment but there are varied levels of success that are associated with it. Sometimes the body accepts it well and people become better while others do not see any benefits from it at all. However, I think that with more findings coming about, research will only continue to amass in the future.

According to the Journal of Clinical Oncology, there was a trial performed that would put a newfound protocol to use, provided it would work well. Disease research is the focus but for those who are vying for more specifics, this is one that would target cancer with CNS lymphoma being the greatest focus. If this method goes over well, who's to say that more universal cures wouldn't be uncovered? It's the kind of possibility that should attract the focus of companies such as Voices Against Brain Cancer.

The procedure went like this: a total of 44 patients, instead of being given standard doses of chemo, where supplies with higher doses of it alongside immune therapy. This combination would actually be more beneficial to the patient's health, seeing as how it was less toxic in comparison. If the standard method was put to use, chances are that brain cell loss and nervous system damage would increase. This goes to show that there is a safer procedure worth implementing and that there are results to be had.

According to the article, the procedure actually worked for the better. Thanks to this, a majority of the patients are not only living but they have follow-ups of nearly five years. It's also worth noting that the majority of procedures often worked better on younger patients than older ones. However, this is different in that those who are 60 years old or over are helped just as much. Seeing as how this tumor is seen more so in those who are in their mid-60's, this has its benefits, without question.

I think that disease research can be taken a number of ways when you're talking about the findings associated with it. Some people may believe that such things do not hold that much bearing but there are others who think differently, as you could imagine. These people are certain that such matters can ultimately build up to when future treatment options are uncovered. As someone who desires this option as well, I can only hope it comes about sooner rather than later.
