Brew this tea by crushing several cloves of peeled garlic and placing in two cups of water to simmer for 15 minutes. Strain and sweeten using honey. Add cayenne pepper and lemon for even more help.

A sweetener such as honey, brown sugar or stevia can be mixed with red onions to create a syrup that is soothing and tasty. To prepare the syrup, thinly slice a peeled onion horizontally. Leave the rings intact and place a layer in a bowl. Sprinkle with sweetener (if using stevia, remember it is naturally very sweet, so limit to small sprinkles. Continue to layer the onion and sweetener, using the entire onion. Allow to sit several hours to collect the syrup. Users will be surprised to find the flavor is not onion-like.

Raw honey mixed with fresh juice of one lemon offers a soothing remedy for a sore throat and can stop coughing. Raw honey is filled with enzymes that naturally kill cold viruses and bacteria. Lemon offer antioxidants as well as vitamins to boost the immune system. Mix the juice with 4-6 tablespoons of honey and use as needed.

Mom's chicken soup does offer help for both the flu and colds. Both vegetables and broth offer antioxidants to speed one's recovery. With an all organic soup, it is possible to eliminate growth hormones, pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals that may cause one's health to suffer. Organic offers better healing powers.

Mullein tea can help with congestion that can lead to coughs. It contains a natural expectorant to loosen trapped mucus and soothe one's sore throat. Steep the herb in boiling water for approximately ten minutes and sweeten using raw honey. Use as needed throughout the day by sipping for continual relief.

During cold season, families will likely need cough remedies. If the symptoms continue for more than a week or are accompanied by high fever, the sufferer should see his doctor. What starts as a normal cold can sometimes become much more serious. Colds can develop into bronchitis or pneumonia. These conditions can be life threatening and require additional medical care.
